For Spiritual Seekers, shadow work is a difficult but necessary part of bringing more light to life.
Shadow work can take many forms, but it ultimately its practice and exercises involve delving deep within, to uncover and reclaim the parts of ourselves that we’d rather not see.
These may include (but aren’t limited to):
– personality traits that we’ve suppressed and disowned.
– Behaviors that were shunned or disapproved of when we were children
– Negative opinions
– Personal qualities we think are ugly or unlovable
– Desires that we ‘think’ are wrong
– Subconscious thought patterns

We all have a shadow side
Carl Jung wrote about the shadow containing “everything of which a person is not fully conscious” so uncovering your shadow doesn’t mean you’re a toxic person (though the deep work can make it feel that way). Part of growing up as a human on this planet means you have shadow traits to work through – this is really a large part of the work that you came here to do. Because ultimately, by doing this work, we heal ourselves. And in turn, we heal the planet.
Jung also wrote about archetypes.
You could say that Numerology is a science and system of archetypal exploration, meaning: it seeks to describe and explain the universal energy types that flow through us all.
The Numerology of the Shadow
The Life Path, Expression and Soul Urge Numbers describe our strongest personal archetypes – our key personality traits, our strengths, skills, desires, passions and gifts. And these numbers also contain very big clues as to what our personal shadows contain. So unravelling and decoding our core numbers can be invaluable when it comes to understanding ourselves, our friends and family, and our relationships.
When analyzing potentially ‘negative’ personality traits, it’s vital to be compassionate.
We’re all human.
The shadow traits below are tendencies and not absolutes and it’s important to realize that they are actually the areas of greatest personal potential! So when revealed, they must be held carefully and kindly, as you would a child.
Of course, your flaws, wounds and pain will be unique to you, and the life (and lives) you have walked this far. But the archetypal shadowlands described below can give huge insight as to where to begin looking.
Your shadows lie in the way you control your personal power.

It’s well known that planetary retrogrades can activate the shadow…
This is because when planets are appearing to move backwards, the pull they exert on the aspect of the human psyche they rule, changes direction. So instead of encouraging and enabling us to do our work out in the world, we are encouraged to turn inward. Retrogrades signify times when inner work is required of us, and this most often involves facing our personal shadows. And it becomes even more immediate when the planet Pluto turns retrograde (as ruler of the underworld) and more information about this can be found HERE.
These areas of shadow are general places within your psyche to start looking, but as already described, real shadow work is no walk in the park. So if you are ready for the journey, be wise, and work slowly. Or better still, work with a therapist, healer or practitioner you trust.
