“As soon as you honor the present moment, all unhappiness and struggle dissolve, and life begins to flow with joy and ease. When you act out the present-moment awareness, whatever you do becomes imbued with a sense of quality, care, and love – even the most simple action.” Eckhart Tolle

Communicating authentically with others, as well as listening to what’s being said to you in return requires absolute presence. If you’re stuck in an old story or preoccupied with your own desired outcome, then it’s all too easy to miscommunicate, or worse still to start lying, manipulating or holding back on your truth.

When this happens, (and it happens to us all!) it’s a sign of a blocked or imbalanced throat chakra.

Activate the Throat Chakra to Speak your Truth and Embrace the Present Moment

The throat chakra (Sanskrit name Vishuddha) is regarded as the fifth chakra, and sits in the neck. The ears and shoulders are also affected by this powerful energy vortex which is blue in color (in fact, this chakra is also known as the “blue chakra”).

This calming color can really help to balance this chakra, enabling you to sharpen up the clarity of your communication and strengthen your will. The throat connects the heart to the mind and enables you to speak your heartfelt truth and express it verbally with conviction and free of critical judgment.

PinChakra healing using the color blue can also help you to overcome a fear of speaking, stuttering, gossiping and lying and promotes profound healing and creative expression. It works on the throat, neck, jaw, arms, digestive tract, vocal chords, ears, nose, mouth, thyroid, and parathyroid glands.

Signs of a blocked throat chakra can include:

Sluggishness and lethargy, excessive talking, inability to listen, fear of speaking, poor rhythm and aphasia.

There are several ways to stimulate and rebalance the throat chakra.

1. Use Vibrational Remedies:

Australian bush flowers such as the Old Man Banksia, Bush Fuschia, Boronia, Bauhinia and Black-eyed Susan will work on rebalancing the throat chakra and will ultimately help you to remember the practice of self-control, presence, and patience.

More info on how flower essences can be used to restore the chakras can be found in this video.

Organic essential oils such as Peppermint, Spearmint, Cardamom, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree are also perfect for clearing blockages in the throat chakra and they can be diffused in an oil burner or vaporizer which is then sprayed into the aura; or gently rubbed onto trigger points on the skin.

2. Use Crystals:

Listed below are a selection of healing stones that are commonly used to open, balance and heal the throat chakra.

  • Blue Lace Agate – Pale Blue – Enhances communication, healing, and alignment.
  • Angelite – Pale Blue – Aids communication, patience and angelic connection.
  • Lapis Lazuli – Rich Blue with gold speckles – This “stone of truth” restores your ability to communicate effectively.
  • Turquoise – Turquoise – Dispels negativity and restores confidence to speak and express one’s thoughts effectively.
  • Aquamarine – Light Green/Blue – Offers courage and promotes tolerance and patience while dispelling fear.

Each crystal holds a unique vibration so it’s extremely important to know how to use the correct stone with the affected chakra. Cleansed and charged healing crystals are most effective when you place them near to the location of the imbalanced chakra which is in need of healing. They are often worn as jewelry or positioned over the affected chakra.

For fifth chakra healing, wear your crystal as a necklace, or consume as a gem elixir.

2. Use Sound Frequencies:

Certain sound vibrations resonate with the chakras and are incredibly powerful for clearing blockages and creating balance. Among the most popular are the use of mantras and vowels.

The Seven Sacred Vowels are considered extremely holy in many traditions including ancient Egyptians, Tibetan, Japanese and Native American.

The vowel for throat chakra activation is Eye.

Another potent method of resonating the chakras is to use the Bija Mantras. These were developed from Sanskrit letters within the Vedic traditions, and are said to balance and align the chakras.

The Bija Mantra which resonates with the throat chakra is HAM

Another aspect of sonic chakra system resonance has to do with the actual frequency or keynote of each chakra.

Keynote G is believed to be in natural resonance with the throat chakra. It has a frequency of 384 Hz.

More than any with any other chakra, if you sing these notes yourself – vocalize them using your voice, as well as listening to their frequency, your throat chakra will receive profound healing.

4. Express yourself through a journal.

If you find it difficult expressing what you think and feel try keeping a journal. You can write everything and anything in this – so long as you are being honest with every word.

A great method for easing into this is through Morning Pages, a technique described in the book “The Artists Way” by Julia Cameron. Very simply, first thing each morning you must write three pages of uninterrupted prose, about anything and everything that come to mind. The aim isn’t to create a masterpiece – it can have any number of incredible outcomes. But here, crucially, it is a way to free your creative expression and begin to shift any throat chakra blockages preventing this.

5. Surround yourself with the color blue

Another very simple method for healing and rebalancing the throat chakra is to fill your surroundings with the resonance of its corresponding color. Blue energy is SO powerful! So fill your home with blue soft furnishings, wear blue fabrics and, of course, spend time outside in gazing at the vast blue sky, or swimming in the blue ocean.

Yoga. There are many yoga practices that focus on strengthening and healing the throat chakra, and of course, releasing tension in the shoulders and upper back – seek out a teacher in your area, or search for a video online.

Affirmations. Affirmations are used to reprogram the subconscious mind and encourage you to believe certain things about yourself or about the world around you. They are extremely beneficial in helping you create the reality that you desire, affecting and will influence your overall happiness.

Simply stating a positive affirmation about your ability to speak your truth will significantly improve the confidence and clarity with which this manifests for you.

Food. The everyday foods we eat all have energetic properties, and choosing the right ones can really heal a chakra that is suffering from an imbalance. Food such as blueberries and blackberries, as well as many Mediterranean herbs can help to open this energy center, and remove blockages. Check out this piece for much more information about the healing power of foods when it comes to the throat chakra.

Meditation. Meditation is incredibly powerful for chakra healing work.
