She described 8 as the one who "has reached self-consciousness" and "can look out from the strength within." The 8 is the body of the higher trinity: grounded, physical, capable, built.
In the tarot, 8 is Strength - a woman gently closing the mouth of a lion with her bare hands. No chains. No force. Just the quiet authority of someone who understands the animal she is touching, and the animal, somehow, understands her back.

The doubled 8 is not "more success" or "abundance incoming," the way much of the internet reads it. The doubled 8 is two separate masteries that have grown up next to each other long enough to have their root systems intertwined underground. Structurally interdependent without either one losing its individual shape.
The Lightning in the Sum
Add the digits: 8 + 8 = 16.
In the tarot, 16 is the Tower. A stone structure struck by lightning from a clear sky. The crown at the top blown off. Two figures falling through the air. The image looks catastrophic, and most people flinch when they draw it.
But the Pythagoreans called 16 "the number of felicity." Sit with that for a moment. The card that looks like disaster, numbered with a value the oldest Western mathematical tradition associated with happiness. The contradiction is the teaching.
The Tower does not destroy. It liberates. The structure it strikes was sealed - nothing could enter, nothing could leave, and the rigidity that felt like safety had become a prison. The lightning is the moment the walls finally crack and air rushes in.
The crown flying off the top is the false authority being removed. The two figures falling are not dying - they are being freed from a structure that was holding them too tightly.

What Grows in the Clearing
16 reduces further: 1 + 6 = 7. The final destination of 88 is the Chariot.

Balliett called 7 "a complete temple standing alone" and described the person vibrating to it as someone who carries a finished, sacred atmosphere that remains partially a mystery even to the people who love them.
The Chariot card shows a figure driving two sphinxes - one black, one white - in a single direction without touching the reins. The movement is not forced. The sphinxes cooperate because the charioteer has become coherent enough to hold opposing forces in alignment.
Victory, in the oldest sense of the word: not conquest over an enemy but integration of the contradictions within yourself.
So the full arc of 88 runs like this: two established masteries (8, 8) are cracked open by the same lightning bolt (16, the Tower), and what grows in the clearing they leave behind is a sacred knowing (7, the Chariot) that neither mastery could have produced while it was still intact.
The oaks had to break for the clearing to exist. The clearing had to exist for the new growth to take root. And the new growth - the 7, the temple standing alone - carries the genetic material of both trees while being something neither one was.

The Felicity the Pythagoreans Saw
Why did they call 16 the number of felicity? Because the clearing is where happiness lives.

Agrippa listed eight rewards of the blessed at the number 8: inheritance, incorruption, power, victory, vision of God, grace, a kingdom, joy. Those eight rewards, doubled and cracked open, produce the single reward of 7: wholeness. The charioteer who does not need to grip the reins because the sphinxes have finally agreed on a direction.
