When the Hermit finishes first, the Chariot inherits a clean field. The sphinxes pulling left and right are the actual opposing forces of the present moment, not the ghosts of old conflicts. The driver can see clearly because the mountaintop lantern has already shown what was done and what remains.

This is why 9797 produces a particular quality of victory - the kind that comes from entering an arena with nothing held back. No unfinished business leaking energy.

And most people who are good at victory - at holding opposing forces together and driving through resistance , tend to keep driving. The Chariot is momentum. Why stop to finish anything when there is another alignment to achieve, another set of contradictions to master?

9797 describes the person who refuses both comfortable extremes. The sage who keeps entering the arena. The victor who keeps climbing the mountain. Neither the pure contemplative nor the pure competitor, but the one who has learned that completion sharpens victory and victory reveals completion.

The sphinxes are steadier. The aim is cleaner. The contradictions held together are the ones that matter now, not the ones inherited from a chapter that should have closed.

Two rounds of this . Complete, win, complete, win - and the oscillation stops being something that happens to you and becomes something you inhabit. A tempo. A way of moving through the world that is neither pure contemplation nor pure action but the continuous handoff between them.
