Mark Your Calendar…

The next Full Moons in Gemini occur on:

  • December 12, 2019, at 19º
  • November 30, 2020, at 8º (also a penumbral lunar eclipse).

Our constant companion, our shining, sacred Moon is reaching the heights of Fullness this week, in quick-witted Gemini, an air sign known for its connective and restless nature.

Symbolized by the twins in astrology, Gemini is always on the move, flitting between this idea and that, this opinion and another, one social gathering to a party across town…Gemini is the glue that sticks the rest of the zodiac together, the socialite, the messenger, the channel through which energy and information are always flowing. Which is why a Full Moon in this sign makes it SO hard to switch off.

If you’re sensitive to lunar energies, you’re probably already struggling to sleep as light and energy grow, and your mind is alive with thoughts, plans, ideas and, well, basically everything and anything that crosses it. I’d tell you to meditate, but under this Moon it can be impossible to even rest in one place for 5 minutes, let alone quieten the mind.

But it’s not all bad!

The constant stream of information and inspiration that air-sign Gemini carries, makes this a time of huge potential for some major mental breakthroughs. Connected to the element of air, Gemini seems to pluck ideas from the sky and cross-pollinate them with something somebody said last week to come up with some truly ingenious theories and plans. Under the light of this Full Moon, connecting the dots could take on a supersonic quality!

But. And it’s a big but… this sign also carries the real danger of scattering all of this potential out into the ether before any of it can be caught and anchored into the world.

So what can you do? We already know that meditation’s out the window, and Gemini IS the sign of communication. So let the words flow…! Here are 3 quick and simple Full Moon Rituals to try, specially designed to align your magick with the word-weaving wisdom of the sign of Gemini.

1. Write a Letter to your Future Self

This is a brilliant way to open up avenues in the mind that you wouldn’t normally. And it’s an especially potent practice to do under the light of the Full Moon, as its energy has the power to cleanse, nourish and soothe, and this will be channeled into your letter (and the future ‘you’ that reads it!)

You can pull out a good old fashioned pen and paper, or a better option is to write your letter online in the form of an email. There are some great websites that offer a “letter to your future self” email service – futureme.org is super simple to use. The key is not to overthink what you want to say – simply write “Dear….” and let the energy of the Moon move through you, loosening any blocks to your expression. As well as being a nifty way to transcend space and time (Full Moons really are magical!) this can also be a truly healing practice.

Make this a sacred ceremony by lighting a candle and some burning some essential oils to create a soothing atmosphere while you work.

No one will read this letter but you.

No one knows you better than you.

You can be as open and vulnerable, or as cheeky and irreverent as you want! No limits.

2. Automatic Writing

This second ritual is a great way to glean the answer to a question.

Create sacred space by lighting a candle or two, and some incense or smudge (such as sage or Palo Santo). Ensure you’re sitting comfortably, then think of a question that you’re seeking an answer to. Take a piece of paper and a pen you love to write with and write your question at the top, as though you were setting an intention.

Then answer it.

Don’t over-think what comes, don’t even try too hard to answer the question, simply let your response be a stream of consciousness that comes from within. Release your resistance to letting go, and try not to worry about whether it makes any sense or not. Just let the words flow.

To amp-up this practice and transform it into a sacred Full Moon Ritual, invoke the wisdom of the Goddess. Allow yourself to shift into a gentle trance-like state (even better if you can also let the moonlight filter onto your page) and let Her voice channel through your pen.

3. The Wisdom of the Rock

This is an ancient spiritual divination technique which also uses the mystery of language, symbolism, and connection that Gemini so loves. It involves connecting to the Spirit of nature by extracting information from a rock, and as a Full Moon ritual, becomes an even more illuminating method for unlocking the answer to a burning question that you may have.

Step 1

On the night of the Full Moon, keep your question in mind (ensure it’s not a “yes” or “no” question, but one that can be elaborated on) and take a walk outside. Keep your eyes open for a rock – something you can pick up – that draws your attention.

(**It’s important that you don’t just use a crystal that you have at home. Crystals have a consciousness of their own and could give you some misleading results…)

Pick up the rock and look at just one side. Ask your question. Then gaze into the rock, letting your eyes ripple over its surface, picking up any markings, symbols, or signs that you can see. Pick out 1, 2, 3 and 4 things you see. They could be tiny symbols of a tree, water or a fox. Perhaps you see a Tarot card, a star sign or a rune? Or perhaps a marking you see triggers a word to pop into your mind? Write them down.

Then turn the rock over and do the same thing again: gaze into its surface until you’ve seen 4 symbols or markings and written them down.

Then turn the rock over (to a side you haven’t looked at yet) and do it again. Then one more time, until you have noted down a total of 16 words.

Step 2

Take hold of your piece of paper with the 16 words on it. Under the light of the Moon, read through your list. moving the words around into different orders until they begin to form sentences. Release the urge to make sense of them the first time around and really try to use your intuition and be led by Spirit to find an inner meaning. Nature and the Goddess often speak in metaphor and symbolism, so the message you receive here probably won’t be literal. But it will be exactly what you need to hear.

When you have gathered your answer from the words, be sure to thank the rock, the Goddess and the Moon for their blessings and return the rock to where you found it.
