Here we are, it is July!
We’ve moved from lots of mutable energy in June, which was about change, dissolving and endings, to a time when we are largely in the energies of Cancer- a Cardinal Water sign. Cardinal energy is about initiations and new beginnings. And indeed, we are at a new beginning. We have completed the first half of the year, and we are now moving on to a new phase- the last half.
July Symbols & Themes
Water is linked to emotions and feelings, which flow through us like waves. It is also linked to intuition, which can also flow through us- just as water is a conduit for information.
And Water is also a symbol of gestation. It is believed by some that all life comes from the ocean- the womb of the Earth. That is probably why Cancer is known as the Mother of the zodiac.
This month, one of our themes is gestation- the things we are creating; the nurtured seeds. And another theme is our feelings and intuition, which can be our guide.
But it is important to distinguish between the higher and lower emotions. Lower emotions are essentially rooted in fear, and higher emotions are rooted in love. Let us aim to be in our higher emotions, and have that be our compass.
And since Cancer is the Divine Feminine and the Mother, this is also a major theme for us to focus on.
The Divine Feminine & Mother
Now is a good time to contemplate the Divine Feminine and the archetype of the Mother within us. Whether we are male or female, we all have these inside!
We could also observe the external archetypal Mother figures in our lives, and our relationships with them.
And now is also a great time to connect with a Mother Goddess, if you feel so inclined. Among them are Mother Mary, Isis, Yemaya and Kuan Yin.
We could all use some Mother Love – and now is a particularly good time to reach out for this healing and nurturing.
You may even want to use some pink crystals which vibrate to the energy of Mother Love this month. See which one/s you connect with, but I’d recommend: Rose Quartz, Rhodonite and Cobaltocalcite.
The colors I’d recommend for this month are: Blue, White, Silver and Pink.
Blue links to Water and the Divine Feminine.
Silver and White link to the Moon, which rules Cancer.
Pink is a color of Love.
If you feel inspired to connect with a particular Mother Goddess, here are some tips for honoring them.
Connecting With The Mother Goddess
Sacred Dance- One of the first ways goddesses were historically honored was through dance. Find a space and play some music, maybe even light some incense or candles, and dedicate an improvisational dance to them.
Create an Altar and Offer Flowers- Set aside a space and decorate it with a picture or statue of the goddess, use some of their colors, and objects associated with them. Offer them flowers. For Mother Mary, bring roses or white lilies. For Yemaya, choose some white flowers.
Burn Incense and Pray- Find some scents that are associated with them and burn incense in their honour, while praying for their healing, guidance and love. You could even write a prayer to say just for them, from the heart.
Tarot Reading for July
I pulled some cards for July, and they were perfectly in line with the themes mentioned!
Here’s what came up:
Empress- The Empress is the symbol of the pregnant Mother, and also a symbol of Divine Love. This card indicates the importance of these themes this month.
2 of Cups- This card echoes the energy of the first card, as it is linked astrologically to the symbol of the “Mother and Child”, and the relationship between the two. This card therefore also signifies the creative process; the relationship between the Creator and the Created.
6 of Swords- The keyword that came up for me when I saw this card was: Healing. In this image we see people on a boat crossing the water, and moving from turbulence to calm. For some of us, 2016 may have been turbulent so far. 2016 is a 9 year, which is a number of completion and endings. In 2017, we will begin a new 9 year cycle. So, some turbulence can come with this transition, when we let go and tie loose ends. This card indicates that the latter part of the year will be healing and calmer for us. Whew!
Balancing the Polar Themes
Also, it is worth considering the themes of Capricorn (the Father of the zodiac) this month, as it is the polar sign to Cancer. I firmly believe in linking and reconciling the polarities, as they are always connected. We may try to find the balance between the opposing themes of Cancer and Capricorn.
- Internal vs. External worlds
- Emotions vs. Logic
- Home vs. Worldly realm
- Mother vs. Father
- Flow vs. Structure
Thank you so much for reading. Have a beautiful month!
