Before you begin…
Choose a comfortable space in your home where you will not be disturbed for the next 15 minutes and sitting upright, just relax, close your eyes and begin by concentrating on your breath.
Slowly, breathe in deeply allowing your belly to expand, followed by your chest so your lungs are full of air. Hold for a few seconds and finally slowly breathe out for about until your lungs are completely empty.
Repeat the process several times to deepen your relaxation but this time when you breathe in imagine that you are inhaling peace as a vibrant white light and exhaling any form of tension or anxiety as a dark cloud. Slowing everything down so that your whole body starts to feel loose and floppy, heavy and warm.
Take a few moments to observe the weight of your body either in the chair or on the floor and any sounds that can hear either close up or far away.
Any thoughts or feelings that come in, simply observe without judgement and imagine them being gently wafted away with a paper fan and return your focus to the breath. Breathing in peace as a white light and tension as a dark cloud.
Imagine a golden light.
I’d like you to imagine a beautiful golden light, similar to sunshine beaming down through the top of your head and allow it to flood down throughout your entire being. This warming light travels down through the face, neck and shoulders, arms and hands, chest and stomach, hips and thighs, knees and calves, ankles and feet and finally the toes, filling your entire being. Allow the light to dissolve any areas of tension that you notice are stored at various points of the body as it beams through. Allow this area to relax to its highest capacity in this moment. Move onto the next area until you reach your toes.
Imagine now that there is a beautiful staircase leading downwards in front of you.
This can present itself to you in any way. Just use your imagination….It may be a sweeping spiral staircase in white marble, or crafted in detail from mahogany or even glittering golden and encrusted with gemstones….Picture it in as much details as possible as you feel the bannister beneath your palm as you slowly make your decent, one step at a time. Notice the temperature, any sounds that you can hear or fragrances that are beckoning you.
As I count back from 10 to 1 you will finally reach the bottom of the stairwell and there before you is a stunningly picturesque ancient forest. Notice the sounds of this pristine environment….What do you observe? You may hear insects buzzing in the dense foliage or the sweet echo of a mockingjay in the distance.
Into the forest…
Stretching before you is an inviting trial meandering through the forest and you feel compelled to venture on and explore the depths of the rainforest. Notice the colours of the enormous leafs above your head as the sunlight beams through them dappling the path before you. You feel safe and secure as you move deeper and deeper into this magical landscape passing through currents of airs tainted with the sweet scent of frangipani flowers and damp ferns. The wise old trees have been there for centuries and grow high into an insanely azure sky which offers a backdrop to soft lilac clouds.
You are feeling more and more at peace and have the feeling you have been here before although strangely you can not remember when.
All of a sudden in the distance you notice a clearing in the forest and can hear the enticing sound of a waterfall as it plunges down into a crystal clear lagoon. It’s turquoise waters cast a spray into the air creating rainbows in the sunlight. The surrounding rocks seem to be sculpted from enormous amethysts and provide the perfect resting place for you as you decide to remove your clothes and dive into the cooling waters to revitalise.
Deeper and deeper you swim and the further you go the more peaceful you feel.
You are gifted with the ability to breathe under the surface of the water so you explore further. Notice what is around you. You may pass a school of silvery fish, some mesmerising jelly fish or a ancient turtle covered in barnacles. Observe what you see around you. As you turn to look up you notice how far you have swam but you can still see rays of sunlight beaming through the surface of the lagoon.
It gets darker and darker the deeper you go until you find yourself resting on the bed of the crystal lagoon. You pause there for a few moments. Utter serenity passes through your entire being as you float there in suspended animation. You want to stay here forever.
A wooden chest appears…
You curiously look around you and notice a by your feet a old wooden chest and it appears to have a key still in its lock. Turning the key you prize open the box and inside you are offered something especially for you. This unique gift could be a symbol of some sort, a memory or a treasured belonging from you past. Whatever, it is you can either pick it up and take it with you or leave it where it is and just take the memory of it back to the physical world.
Pushing off with you feet you gracefully ascend through the water like a dolphin. Up and up you go passing schools of fish, the ancient turtle until you find yourself breaking through the surface of the lagoon and back into the daylight You feel the warmth of the sun on your face and can once again hear the enchanting rhythm of rain forest.
Climbing back onto the banks of the lagoon, you effortlessly clothe yourself again and retrace your steps along meandering track through the trees until you return to the bottom of your beautiful staircase.
Taking one step at a time you feel the texture of the stairs beneath the souls of your feet as you climb up and up.
Now simply return to the breath.
Breathing in, holding and then breathing out. As you breathe out imagine any last remaining tension leaving your body.
Notice how you are feeling now. Just sit with that for a few moments before starting to become more aware of the weight of the body in your chair or on the floor. Listening out for any sounds that you can hear either close up or far away and in your own time as I count up from 5 to 1 you climb the last remaining stairs and you begin to become more aware of your physical surroundings and when you open your eyes you are feeling better than before with the memory of the item you discovered at the bottom of the crystal lagoon.
