We all have bad days.

Life can be intense, chaotic and frustratingly difficult to navigate.  And at the other end of the spectrum, it can at times be monotonous, and mind-numbingly dull!  It’s normal for our moods to rise and fall with the rhythms of these days, but a bad mood can be seriously debilitating if you can’t snap yourself out of it.

A toolbox of quick and easy methods to break free from bad moods is a MUST for anyone on a Spiritual mission – overcoming downward spirals of the mind is one of the first steps to take, when reclaiming your personal power.

SO here are simple 5 tools to keep on hand so when a bad mood hits, you’re ready to shift it fast.

Pin1. Find Presence

Be in the moment.

Whether your bad mood emerged from anxiety about the future or worries about the past (or neither of these things directly), peace can only be found in the present moment.

The easiest and quickest way to bring yourself back to the now and re-discover your center is to focus on the breath.  SO take a long, deep breath in, hold for a couple of seconds, and breathe out.  Repeat until you are back in the present, and your mood is stable.

2. Be of Service

Offer your energy to somebody less fortunate than yourself.

There will always be someone who has less than you do, and the act of reaching out to those in need has a powerful way of re-framing our own feelings of lack.  But not only this, giving has been scientifically proven to increase happiness.  Just one example is a 2008 study by Harvard Business School Professor Michael Norton, which found that those who spent money on other people resulted in them feeling happier than if they had spent it on themselves!

But giving needn’t cost you anything – simply pick up the phone and call a friend.  Ask them how they are, and whether they’re in need of any support.

3. Do Something Silly

Let yourself off the hook.

You don’t need to be anywhere other than where you are right now, so you may as well let go of that inner perfectionist and have a giggle.  It is easier said than done when you’re in the middle of a funk, but one of the quickest ways to jolt yourself loose is to play the fool!  Do something silly and playful for no reason at all, other than because you’re human, and you can.

4. Reframe your Perspective

Take a long, hard, analytical look at the life you’re leading.

Is it really as bad as it seems?

Is your mood really proportional to the bigger picture of what’s unfolding around you?

Or is there another angle that you could take, another perspective you could adopt?

You get to choose how you react to everything in life, so choose to reframe your life as something positive.

5. Take a Walk

Nothing ever became worse after a walk.

In fact, going for a walk can shift not just your mood, but your entire energy field!  Walking gently releases endorphins into the body, improving self-esteem, creativity and confidence levels, as well as helping the brain cope with stress and anxiety.  And if you walk outside, the vitamin D hit will give you extra benefits too!
