What is the Seat of the Soul Chakra?

The Seat of the Soul, also known as the soul star chakra is not always included in the chakra system, as it sits above the head, a little way beyond the crown chakra.

In Sanskrit, it’s referred to as the Vyapini Chakra, and in the west the terms “seat of the soul” and “soul star chakra” are interchangeable.

This powerful upper energy center connected to the divine and is regarded as the first of the chakras that’s transpersonal. This means that it serves as a kind of gateway between divine energy and a person’s own, human energetic system.

Tapping into the soul star chakra is believed, in yogic tradition, to offer a gateway to transcendence and higher states of divine consciousness.

What is a Chakra?

A chakra is a spinning disk or wheel of energy. In the human body, there are 7 main chakras that run along the spine, each of which holds and carries a specific energy. Yet (as we see here) there are additional chakras above and also below the human body. There are also as many as 114 minor chakras spread over the rest of the body.

Chakras are believed to relate to different glands within the physical body, as well as to energetic impulses, strengths, and weaknesses.

Mention of Chakras can be found in the ancient Vedic Texts, dating from 1500 BC. Yet more recently, the concept of chakras has entered the mainstream spiritual lexicon in the West too.

The seven main chakras are listed below in descending order. It’s important to understand that they’re all equally important. Where a chakra is located on the body has nothing to do with its value.

What’s the Difference Between a Healthy Chakra and an Imbalanced Chakra?

When a chakra is open and operating optimally, it’s spinning with ease. This allows it to receive information from outside, AND transmit information from within, through the physical, emotional and mental bodies, and beyond into a person’s auric field.

Quite simply, this feels good! When our chakras are balanced, we’re functioning healthily.

Yet, it’s not uncommon for chakras to be out of balance (over, or underactive), or worse still, blocked. When this occurs, an individual will experience negativity – in the form of fearful or destructive thoughts, difficulty learning of holding focus, depression or anxiety, or any host of other emotional and physical disorders. Long term chakra imbalances can also result in chronic physical illness.

Symptoms of an imbalanced or blocked Soul Star Chakra

Because the soul star sits beyond the human body, it’s not directly connected to any of the glands, like the other chakras. So an imbalance won’t necessarily manifest physically. Symptoms of a blockage are more likely to be subtle and difficult to pinpoint.

Occasionally, a soul star chakra may be overactive, but this is much less common than one that’s underactive. If you imagine that for most people, even the idea of connecting to Spirit or the divine is a foreign concept, so the soul star chakra of almost everyone is probably compromised.

Signs of an Overactive Soul Star Chakra

  • Daydreaming or getting lost in thought
  • Obsessed with spirituality
  • Tries to achieve alternate states of consciousness
  • Gets lost in the idea of past lives
  • Escapist tendencies
  • Lack of boundaries

Signs of an Underactive Soul Star Chakra

  • Anxious
  • Overly worried about life in general
  • Ungrounded
  • Can’t surrender to things beyond their control
  • Mistrustful of the world
  • Feeling detached
