Do you know your Tarot Birth Card?

Numerology and Tarot are age-old friends, they intimately connected, and when used together, can be powerfully revealing!

Every single card in a Tarot deck is associated with a particular number. From the Hierophant to the Tower to the Judgement Card, they all have a numerological equivalent. Most of the time, especially in the major arcana, these numbers are actually written on the cards themselves.

If you’re already familiar with Numerology, you probably understand a little about the power, meaning and symbolism contained in the numbers 1 – 9. Guess what…These same meanings hold true for the cards in a Tarot deck too! So if you already know your Life Path Number (and have a Tarot deck on hand) it’s very easy to work out which Tarot card is most closely aligned with your personal numerology…

Life Path 5: Tarot Birth Card –  The Hierophant

Hierophant Tarot Birth Card from the Rider-Waite Tarot DeckPin‘Know thy roots’

The Hierophant is the ancestral figure of the tarot.  As the masculine counterpart to the High Priestess, he is sometimes referred to as the High Priest, the Pope or even the Shaman in some decks. As an archetype, he represents our universal connection to the rest of life on this planet, and to what has gone before us. The Hierophant, in particular, symbolizes the ways in which the events of the past have shaped our lives and how its energy still touches us.

In terms of the Tarot Birth Card, it can be difficult to see, at first, how this archetype connects to the number 5, which is typically regarded as carefree, spontaneous and adventurous. But in fact, despite seeming to be ungrounded and fleeting, the 5 is probably one of the numbers most connected to the essence of what it is to be human. This is because the 5 understands that we are all, at our core, citizens of planet Earth and the reason that Number 5s are able to live so freely is that they are intrinsically, spiritually connected to her, wherever they roam. The Hierophant also understands and embodies this deep, rooted connection and with it, the roots of humanity. He knows where he has come from, is interested in the stories and lessons of our ancestors and values the paths they have trodden before us.

On the card, the Hierophant is depicted in a formal church setting. In front of him, two fellows of the church are kneeling, ready to be initiated into the formalities of the institution. In medieval times, the Hierophant was the equivalent of the Pope and represented the Spiritual and Political power which came with that position. Today, as a well-traveled and knowledgeable lover of culture and history, the Hierophant is someone who is able to translate tales and myths from the past into relevant, up-to-date guidance for modern life.

Ruled by Taurus, the Hierophant is deeply connected to the physicality of life and the sense of belonging that this brings. He represents the amplified spiritual power that comes when we unite, through institutions, clubs, shared interests and modern tribal association. These days, this belonging doesn’t imply the sense of limitation that it once did: modern connectivity means people can be united wherever in the world they are!

Key Strengths of the Hierophant Tarot Birth Card:

Your warmth means that people come to you for help.

You are intelligent and a good communicator, sharing your wisdom readily with others.

You are a good listener, and a good storyteller.

⇢ You have a way of getting people to listen when you speak.

Learning from the past comes naturally to you – you have this amazing ability to understand history in a modern context, and you know what lessons to bring forwards (and what to leave behind).

You have a lot of respect for tradition, coupled with a sense of social responsibility.

Key Challenges of the Hierophant Tarot Birth Card:

These are similar to the traits which are emphasised in a Tarot reading when the Hierophant Card shows up reversed.

⇢ Despite your warmth, people may be put off by an aloof quality in you.

⇢ You have a tendency to ‘live in the past’…

⇢ …which means you may find it harder than most to forge your own way in life.

⇢ You may often struggle to feel ‘grounded’, despite having strong roots.

⇢ You can be impatient with the world’s fixation with novelty and always looking forwards, fearing that society fails to learn from from the past.

People can easily become dependent on you – it takes effort on your part to discourage this.

Hierophant Tarot Birth Card Love & Compatibility:

⇢ Hierophants and Emperors (Life Path 4) go well together as both have an appreciation of tradition and of things being done properly.

⇢  A High Priestess (Life Path 2) would complement your spiritual side. You’d be attracted to her ability to see into the depths of your soul and really understand you.

⇢ You’d also be suited to a Hermit (Life Path 9), who would enjoy long discussions with you on the nature of humanity.

⇢ You’d likely be comfortable with a Lover (Life Path 6), who would appreciate your counsel when making tricky decisions.

⇢ A Magician (Life Path 1) would help you to do something practical with those lofty thoughts of yours, which would tend to excite rather than intimidate you… provided you didn’t feel bossed around!

Hierophant Tarot Birth Card Career, Work & Lifestyle Ideas:

⇢ You’d make such a great youth worker – you have this ability to connect people with what’s really important, especially in their moments of crisis or when they feel they’re losing track of who they are – often a semi-permanent state for young people!

Teaching would similarly be right up your street.

Storytelling – whether as an actual career or something on the side – would really suit you. You have this knack for finding what’s important in a story and conveying this to others with clarity and depth. Seek out spoken word and storytelling nights and get inspired.

⇢ Ghostwriting, copywriting, biography – telling stories through writing would also be a great idea for you.

Obviously, you can’t gain a true and complete picture of somebody through their Tarot Birth Card!

You are not simply your birth card, your Life Path Number, or anything else you can figure out by adding up the numbers in your life, you are a complex and beautiful creature formed from a myriad of different influences. These are archetypes or universal energy types which move through people in different ways.

But sometimes it can be incredibly powerful to have symbols, numbers, words, cards – anything at all – to hold onto, to help make sense of what we are doing and why!
