How To Decipher The Psychology Of Your Number Journey: 1 - 9 Explained

PinThere is always a bigger picture to everything and this includes numerology. Often in the initial introductions of numerological analysis, we spend a lot of time doing our formulations, getting into detail, concentrating on understanding our life path
number, deciphering all other numbers from our name etc, and then coming to understand how they relate to us personally, but do we really comprehend the larger meaning of what these numbers represent in relation to each other and the whole of life in general?

If we can grasp the macrocosm then the coded microcosm, which is our personal chart, really comes to life and makes sense of the life journey as a whole.

The Story Of Our Lives From One To Nine

In order for you to better understand any numerology work you do for your own self-developmet, or to get a deeper grasp on any analysis you’ve had from a numerology practitioner, I’m going to write about the story behind the number cycles. In essence, each number is a miniature snap shot of a little part of our progression through the world. It describes our psychological growth quite well.

We Spiral through Life – There’s no straight Road!

For me, numerology conveys our journey better than no other. Although it’s important to note we don’t all start out as a number 1, we begin with our life path number and continue to move around the cycle of 1 – 9, with each generation we grow a little more as we encounter the same number and subsequent lessons / energies once more. This can be likened to the spiral, each time round we can hopefully move up from the exact same position we were last time, if we can learn, grow, do some work and move beyond the obstacles which create personal progression.

Sometimes we will spiral down as we reach the same number we have had trouble with in the past. This is fine, and a necessary part of development. This can occur in a generation where we either choose to heal a long-term issue, or the issue is no longer unavoidable and needs to be cleared up to continue evolving. Although it may look like you have taken a detour or a backward step, once you have moved in and out of the long held pattern, you will find things have accelerated when you become freed up again. Also, our consolation for meeting difficulty, is that once resolved, we won’t be required to meet that same number challenge again. Everything will be easier the next circle round.

Where Are Your Challenges?

I recognized that I had a difficult time when I reached the number 6 – 8 part of my cycle, and after a particular tough time over a couple of years, I mapped out my numerology cycles and found that this had happened twice before, at the exact same point in my 20’s and in my childhood. They matched up over three generations, all over the 6 – 8 year stretch of my cycle. It was in this third cycle, (my thirties), in which I have finally been able to address the childhood wound, and the difficult number lessons which were tough for my number and astrological type to absorb.

Equally don’t forget, in your relationships, we have a process of two individuals trying to relate, yet having the experience of moving round a different cycle continuously, whilst together. This is of course, unless you have the same life path number, but although this may seem ideal, it can also pose its own set of challenges.

How To Relate The Numbers To Your Current Life Phase

Once you have read the deeper meanings for each number, you can compare how this snap shot of life compares to your life path number or even the yearly cycle you are in. This is called your Personal Year Number. A quick calculation of this is to simply add your birthday to the current year. For example, say your birth day is February 9th. To calculate your Personal Year Number for 2016 you would add 2 + 9 + 2 + 0 + 1 + 6 = 20. Reduce this number: 2 + 0 = 2. Therefore, the Personal Year for someone born on Feb 9 is a 2. For example, if 2016 is a 2 Personal Year for you, 2017 will be a 3, and so on.

1 – 9 Spiraling through Numbers

PinNumber 1 – Birth / Start (Being Born)

You’re being born. Like the fool in the tarot, or a new baby, you are off to experience and journey. Everything is new, even if nothing much has changed, although things will change, at least some things! It takes time to come out of the dark, heavy, nothingness of the 9. This is where all things developed to such a point that there was only just shedding. You are prioritising you, and with this you desire to be more control of your own path. You want to be autonomous and sufficient and you’re learning to become more self-reliant. You want new things to happen and they will, but don’t go too fast, you have another whole 9 years to develop again. You’re just at the start of it all, looking out across the horizon and feeling fresh again but with some butterflies in your stomach about all that is possible and the knowledge of what you will need to do in order to make it happen.

PinNumber 2 – Union / Connection (Finding Another)

You are slowing down from a lot of new happenings last year. You want connection. When you were born you were just taking it all in and thinking and feeling all of these sights and sounds for yourself. There was a lot to initiate and do, but now, at the end of the day, you are looking to find your connection, your loved one and partner. The number 2, after being born at number 1, desires relatedness. The first thing it does is look for its mummy. This stage in the number world is all about union. It could be your life partner, or that person that you hold close when you get home after work, or call up on the phone. You want to take it easier and even if you don’t, you will have to, because this is a time for attachment rather than action. You are learning patience and how to be more restful after the surge of energy. This is about ticking along and finding value in all those people around you. You will be learning about yourself through all your interactions with people.

PinNumber 3 – Community / Expression (Time for Play)

Now you have moved along in the world a little from the beginning, which was all about you, then the emphasis on your connection needs, now it’s time to go deeper into working out how to get personally satisfied. In infantile stages, this would represent the feeding and playing stage! It’s time to meet others, play, and find out who you are based on the creative and communicative aspects which come out of you. This is why the number 3 concerns, feelings, and the style in which we converse with others. It is about fun, expression and learning through language and image. Imagine you had just landed on a new planet, you would have to go back to basics and find a way to communicate with any new race of species you encountered. You now crave to know what makes you happy and now that independence and connection is in place, you can move on from the physiological base needs to consider who you are, or who you want to be and what, in a sense, fills your belly, or catches your eye.

PinNumber 4 – Creation / Work (Knuckling Down)

So now it’s time to move on in life, with a more serious approach. The psychological stage of number 4, is all about being strong, and getting something done. Going to school for the first time happens at this age, and this experience encapsulates the lesson of commitment to hard work, routine, order and discipline. You are feeling limits all about you, some you may welcome, but a lot of them, you will try to push up and away from you. That won’t always be a bad thing because now is a time, in the cycle of numbers, to see what you are made of and breakthrough beyond what you thought was impossible. You’ll be needing a realistic head and some broad shoulders, but in terms of the energies here, there will be reward for effort and step by step process. If you are looking to build anything lasting, then it may come about in this number opportunity.

PinNumber 5 – Outer experience / Change (Making mistakes)

Oh if we don’t make a mistake or two, or even three in life, then how will we learn? You want to be free, to travel the world and experience whatever you have been suppressing. Isn’t that what a five year old kid would want? Exactly! Now that you have got your work life or school life down, you want to move your gaze to the horizons and long for something new and exciting, foreign or different, to jump out at you. There is an increase in energy and a desire for physicality now, it’s building up to be utilised for adventure. It takes all those four previous years beforehand so that you feel confident and safe enough to venture out and take some risks. It’s only natural in this repeating cyclical life game. You want to taste something fresh on your palate and eat the forbidden fruit. Try for positive re-invention and one that will bring lasting change, or your impulses may get the better of you.

PinNumber 6 – Settling down / Family (Belonging)

What happens when we have developed some autonomy, found some reliable lasting connections, made a solid grounding for our productivity and natural gifts in the world and had enough experience running around to fill our belly? It’s time to settle down and find our own hub of course! At the age of six, a child is just beginning to be aware of themselves fully, as a separate entity. The same is true of the round and warm number 6. It wants to find its own kin and make its own family, and seeks to locate the people and things that feel right for making a nest. Making children and reconnecting with your own inner child is common now. The theme of love is in the air and the desire to be close and affectionate is strong. Whoever you chose to make your nest with, make it a place filled with generosity and take on responsibilities that feel balanced.

PinNumber 7 – The fall / Inner reflection (The Journey Inside)

Mid-life crisis anyone? This would be a good number for it! Falling in love is glorious, but the projections always fall and the chance for something deeper and more profound can now arise. There is something special about the number 7. It’s often said that if a relationship can last these amount of years, that there is a good chance for a whole lot more! The ego is now quite fully developed by 7 years and the child has awareness of oneself. This can create a great deal of anxiety as the inner world becomes more and more evident to the young person. There is a stillness at this stage of the nine year cycle and a need for some courage, because there is less ability for distraction. A pause or a knock off the pedestal can occur, just encase you’ve become too comfortable. These things happen in order to develop faith and a connection with the deeper self. This relationship after all, is the thing that will see you through life. You will need to accept the silence and the retreat for now.

PinNumber 8 – Achievement / Material Success (Personal power)

Well that dark night didn’t last forever, it’s time to be thrown right back into the slipstream of earth life. The hustle, bustle and go, go, go is quite dazzling after all of that chill out time. You may feel happy to be back in the game. The month of August explains the number 8 lesson well. What a lovely time for harvest and the rewards for all that action that you are going to be giving out when you encounter this number opportunity. If the 8 were a person, he would be king Midas, so be successful, develop your power but be careful not to get too attached to the superficial. Maybe as a child, you went on your first shopping trip with your friends with some pocket money, or you got given a job in the house to earn some funds for your piggy bank. If so you were moving in the right direction. Charisma and confidence is acquired through facing inadequacies and continuing on. It’s also created by working your way up the ladder and learning to create the kind of life you dream through self belief.

PinNumber 9 – Death / Ending (Letting go)

Why is it just when we have the perfect moment or the medal for all our long hard endeavours that it’s all over again? It’s because that’s life! Like weighing scales, when you reach the top, the other side drops, or maybe when you reach the mountain peak, you can ski back down with leisure. If you accept it as easily as that, then it will be an easy ending, but if you clasp for what you had it may be more painful. The universe is in a constant process of shedding and so are we. We need to recycle. The past things, ideas, both material and internal must leave us so that we can be renewed. You will want to help the process by giving in to that which is leaving. The world has endings every second. As soon as we experience something it is gone and nothing can be retained, apart from the journey of your learning from 1 – 9, over and over, and the imprint that this has left on your soul. It can feel good for you to let go and be carried along now. Make room for the new.
