PinWe all want to know why. Why didn’t that relationship work out? Why did I get cancer? Why do I keep repeating certain patterns? Why am I alone?

There are a million and one answers to the question, “why?” and your mind will never really know for sure which one is the Absolute Truth, so it’s likely that no matter what answer you stumble upon, you’ll keep asking, “but why?”

We tend to ask “why” when we’re suffering, and suffering happens when we see the present moment as bad or wrong. Indeed, it might look flawed. It might seem so hideously wrong that it keeps you awake at night. Yet seeing it as wrong is what’s making you suffer and ache.

You step into your power when you let go of the need to know why.

When you allow yourself to say, “I don’t know,” you cease arguing with Creation, and you’re able to tap into that magical part of you which is peaceful and still. No matter what challenges you might be facing right now, there’s a deeply peaceful part of you under the surface. It’s a part of you that’s beyond the mind, content to let the universe be as it is.

What if you and the universe are unfolding the only way you and it can possibly unfold? After all, if another way existed, you would probably be doing it. What if you decided to trust how life is unfolding? It can be scary to let go of control, but what if you never had control in the first place? Let go of the illusion that you ever had control, and feel the peace that comes with it.

Letting Go Is Not Giving Up

Letting go doesn’t mean you’re giving up, or no longer looking for new ways to make life as joyful as it can be. It just means no longer struggling to survive.

Maybe life has been really challenging for you — every day a battle. And yet, even in the midst of that fight, Life has totally supported you. Your body does the very best it can. Your heart beats, your digestive system creates fuel and energy, your liver detoxes, and all kinds of processes happen under the surface that you know nothing about — and it’s all happening without your conscious effort.

The amazing thing is, you ARE this mysterious force that’s doing everything. That’s the magic! You get to observe its awesome power, yet you are not separate from it. The comforting thing is that it seems to know what it’s doing. Geese know which direction to fly, and your body knew just how to bring you from childhood into adulthood.

Trust Your Soul

Life knows what it’s doing, you are this miraculous force, and yet your mind doesn’t know a fraction of what’s really going on here. But your soul does, and it doesn’t need to ask why. Trust in your soul, that Ultimate Intelligence connected to the Divine which brought you here, and knows exactly when it’s time for you to go home. What an adventure! Life would probably be boring if you knew everything there was to know, so again, life has taken care of you by giving you a brain that can’t know. Maybe you know just enough.

You are the mystery. You are the Great Unknown. Surrendering to the mystery means being willing to be your true self — wild, unknowable and yet all-knowing. What a miracle — and you’re it!
